SEEDING RACE

GIANT SLALOM

SLALOM

BOARDER & SKIER CROSS
seeding

This is a very easy race to complete and allows the committee to determine your appropriate Race Category.

All competitors MUST enter this race to be eligible to compete in the other disciplines at the games.

This is an insurance & legal prerequisite laid down by the Race School.

gs

The giant slalom is the first of the downhill races and the course is set to allow those people who can ski quick to go for it.  The course layout configuration is comprised of double-gates ["poles"] with alternating red and blue marker flags suspended between them.  This is the longest of the two downhill events staged at the Games.

The course is a series of medium radius turns around double-gates with flags ["poles"].

slalom

The slalom is similar in layout to the Giant Slalom except the course layout is configured using single alternating blue and red colour-coded spring-loaded gates ["poles"] to delineate the racing line.  The overall course length is shorter than that of the Giant-Slalom and the turns tighter, which ultimately slows the racers progress down the course.

This race requires greater technical skill than the Giant-Slalom to secure a good time.

The skier and boarder cross events are a series of races in groups of 4 that compete to be the first at the finish line after passing though a twisting course of turns, rollers and other manoeuvres where the first 2 finishers of each heat proceed to the next heat where there will be final and the first across the line is the winner.

There is a boarder and skier event to keep the competition fair however sometime 4 racers don't fit into the one part of the course so it's not always a matter of skill and strength that gets you to the bottom first but a fair bit of luck not to get tangled up with anyone else.
