The Australian Police Winter Games has been an annual event for 25 years
involving social events, skiing & snowboard races and is the longest
continual Police Winter Sports Competition in the World today. The
underpinning theme... "IT’S SNOW FUN!". There are those who take the
competition seriously! Metered by some frivolity those individuals are
quickly reacquainted with terra-firma, and that’s ”SNOW FUN!”
The games are a very social affair with participants usually accommodated
within the one venue. Everyone breakfasts and dines together - making
new friends is an absolute given.
Open to all police, (past & present) their partners, families {of all
ages} and bona-fide guests, it is almost impossible to identify who the
cop’s are! Friends and guests will feel a generous warm welcome and
thoroughly enjoy themselves, otherwise it’d just be "SNOW FUN!"
The Competition caters to all skier and Boarder abilities, so regardless
of whether you ski off-pisté, or just in your dreams - don't worry,
there will be plenty of others with whom to share the experience. The
events are ability specific and the all important medals and points are
awarded to individuals and their respective teams and the points awarded
are irrespective of the grading in which you compete. Historically, many
first time skiers go on to win medals and therefore invaluable points
for their respective teams within the B graded division...

All levels of skier & boarder are catered to. The more experienced
"Racer's" compete against themselves, the clock, & their fellow age
division competitors on the A grade course, while novices to the alpine
sports compete on the more forgiving B grade course. The race school
always ensures that safety is paramount in their course configurations.
It is mandatory now for all prospective competitors to participate in a
"Seeding" race which permits the race committee to accurately grade the
competitors alpine ability - it is not mandated by time, but by ability
[So if your World Cup qualified, don't think that by skiing slowly will
put you into the B Grade - It ain't gunna happen....]
At the 2006 Games held at Mt. Hotham - Victoria, five teams competed for
the Teams Trophy. New South Wales [The reigning champions], Victoria,
the Combined Teams of {South Australia - The Australian Federal Police
and Tasmania}, Western Australia and Queensland. The APSF constitution
requires that a minimum of three teams must compete for the trophy to be
awarded to in that year.
Other individual awards are also presented, notably, "The Mandy Worden"
encouragement award which was generously donated by Senior Constable
Bill Worden from Queensland in memory of his late wife to the "Most
Improved" female skier. In 2006, this was awarded to Renae Morrisey a
guest from Queensland.

Each night of the week presents a new social event. The fancy dress night
invigorates the frivolity and is a highly animated affair (take a look
at the photo gallery for previous efforts). The 2006 event was won by
"The Hulk" who presented with full green body paint [and we mean full
body paint - let your mind work in overdrive and you may come close to
what actually transpired] and on the final night the formal black-tie
dinner is assured to be HUGE. Check the Itinerary page for a
comprehensive list of all the weeks social events.
The Australian Police Winter Games is both an individual and a team event
with Three disciplines being offered this year for both skiers and
boarders, the Giant Slalom - Boarders and Skier's, the Slalom Skiers
only & Boarder-Cross Boarders only - otherwise referred to as legalised
homicide on the mountain with four boarders simultaneously vying for
position at each gate - the only rules, there are none!!!.
Each Police medallist earns valuable team points which are then tallied to
determine the Champion Team.
Remember, it’ll be "SNOW FUN" unless your there ...
